HI CAL PELLET
Horse and Pony Hi-Cal Pellet
Woods Horse & Pony Hi-Cal Pellet is a high-calcium mineral supplement suitable for feeding horses which are grazing tropical pastures with high oxalate levels, resulting in "Big Head" Syndrome. Big Head disease occurs in horses and ponies because of dietary mineral imbalances. Forages with high levels of oxalates 'tie-up' calcium, causing it to be unavailable for absorption and upsetting the calcium and Phosphorous (P) ratio in circulation. Horses draw calcium from their bones when there is insufficient supply from the diet, then fibrous growths are formed to compensate for the bone loss thus the name "Big Head" disease.
The Woods Horse & Pony Hi-Cal Pellet is composed of milled grains, protein meals (soybean meal, canola meal, cottonseed meal), food by-products (pulse gradings, millrun, biscuit meal, etc.), macro- minerals, trace minerals and fat soluble and B complex vitamins.
Feeding Guidelines
Feed Woods Horse & Pony Hi-Cal Pellet always in conjunction with medium to good quality pasture, hay or chaff. Do not feed pellets more than 1% of horse’s live weight. Woods Horse & Pony Hi-Cal Pellet is suitable for horses in heavy work.
Woods Horse & Pony Hi-Cal Pellet should be introduced gradually over a 2 week period to prevent digestive upset. Do not feed more than 2kg of pellets in a single feed. Adjust daily amount of pellets according to body condition and intensity of work. Consider feeding pellets twice daily if a higher feeding rate is required – consult your animal nutritionist first.
